DATE: Sunday 27th January 2008

Innocent Railway Tunnel

TIME: Meet at 9.45 a.m for 10.00 a.m. start. 3½ hour cycle ride including rests & a coffee break.

STARTING POINT: The Meadows (at the junction of Middle Meadow Walk & North Meadow Walk).

ROUTE SUMMARY: This ride offers a relaxed cycle, largely away from traffic exploring places of interest on the east of the city.

DISTANCE: Approximately 10 miles.

DETAILS: This route is an absolute delight. With Holyrood Park closed to motor traffic on a Sunday, & Duddingston Village having such a strong rural atmosphere, you'd be forgiven for forgetting that you are only a mile or two from Edinburgh's city centre. Those of you unfamiliar with the Figgate Park & Pond will be in for a pleasant surprise. We'll have our coffee stop at the Pitz - the five aside football centre in Portobello. The return leg will be along the Innocent Railway Path, no longer used for rail freight but great for cycling & observing the wildlife from the local nature reserve.
